If a tragedy was a situation the Jayland Walker issue embodies that.
Last week, 25-year-old Jayland Walker was shot 60 times by eight police officers in Akron, Ohio after a car chase and brief foot chase that stemmed from a traffic stop in which Jayland Walker was evading police.
The Police’s excuse for shooting this black man and ending his life in such a tragic way was that he “fired a shot at them while they were chasing his car” However, upon investigation it was discovered that Walker was unarmed at the time of the shooting.
The police fired 90+ shots at him and hit him 60 times. After all of that they STILL decided for whatever reason, to handcuff his dead body.
According to CNN, his body was still handcuffed when it arrived at the coroner’s office.
“The preliminary report by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office contains several pages of thumbnail photos showing Walker dead and handcuffed at the scene and after his body arrived at the coroner’s office.
Jayland’s sister, Jada Walker, is now speaking out about her brother and the tragic events currently surrounding him. She said:
“It’s hard to just talk about somebody who you expect to live your life out with, If it ain’t a movie, we just listening to new music, We both have our own lives, but we always made sure to check in with each other.” Jada told ABC’s Good Morning America.
Addressing the cop who gunned down this innocent young man she said:
“I just want to know, what was the reason? Why you had to resort to him being gunned down in such a manner?” she asked. “None of this is making sense to me.”
My Prayer’s go out to this family. MERICA really has some work to do. SMH
